Cellphones were ugly here in the States…

Finally, after days and days of nagging from my friend, I’m here. So what should my first post about? Ah, yes, my friend wants to know the difference between cellphone usages in the US and Asia, so I guess I’m just gonna write a bit about what I have seen/heard/experienced while in China.

Chinese cellphone users have a HUGE characteristic in common, well most of them anyway, they turn off their cellphones at night. What I mean by that is that they turn off the phones when they go to sleep, then turn it back on after they get up or even later, like when they actually GET TO work. I was amused by it and asked several friends, and basically 2 answers:

1: to conserve the battery so that they don’t have to charge it that often

2: to avoid prank calls at night during sleep.

I have never turned off my phone during sleep time no matter if it’s at night or a nap in the afternoon. However, people I know in China, well a lot of them, are bored out of their skulls, I guess. They would call you between 2 and 4 in the morning and just to remind you to take a leak! Yes, it is true, people actually do that…in China. Fortunately I live in the States so that I have avoided this problem. As for the battery consumption, I guess they have a point, you don’t need the phone when you are sleeping.

Sevearl years ago, my friends sometimes asked me what phone I was using or wanted to use, I gave them several models and they gave me the unanimous response: Why do you choose such an ugly phone? So true, until the year 2004 or 2005, the cellphones in the US are BUTT UGLY! Why? I still do not know the answers. It’s better now and you can see more diverse selections of the phones.

I have been using mine for over 2 years now and it’s still doing its job. However, it won’t be a first choice for any of my friends overseas though.
