The Largest iPhone In The World

•May 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

We have all seen the regular iPhone from Apple, however, this particular iPhone is HUGE!

This super sized iPhone can be used normally, lacks none of the regular iPhone functions, it is even touch screen.  However, how do you use it to make and take phone calls?  I think it can only be done through the speaker.  Such large sized phone is very difficult to carry, then how can it even be called a “cellphone?”  You can’t even make phone calls easily, let along carry it with you when you go out.  Maybe it’s only to be put on the record.

Projecting Cellphone in the Future – Light Flash

•March 27, 2008 • 1 Comment

Maybe we can see similar cellphones or even more advanced products in the year 2014.  A new cellphone design, Ligh Flash, has won the 2nd prize of Tancher Design Award 2008.  It is designed by a Sweden designer, Peter Zsolt Koren.

This concept design looks more like a remote control device than a regular cellphone.  Black, slim and hard plastic exterior cover, large LCD or OLED display screen.  Clean and simple operating interface, and of course, touch screen.

The new and innovative QWERTY keypad design seems to be the perfect match to the Blackberry.  However, even with the unique design, Blackberry seems to be undergoing some exterior design to match up with the public taste.

iPhone profits peeled off

I read this article today in the Metro New York, here’s the rest of the article.

‘Stunning 1M of the Apple gadgets may have been unlocked: analyst

San Francisco.  Owners of Apple’s iPhone may have unlocked an “astounding” 1 million handsets to run on unauthorized wireless networks, depriving the company of lucrative monthly fees, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. said.

That estimate represents 27 percent of about 3.75 million iPhones sold last year, Toni Sacconaghi, the top-ranked computer analyst by Institutional Investor magazine, said.  His previous estimate was 750,000 unlocked phones.  Apple gets an undisclosed cut of monthly service fees for the iPhone, which is typically sold with two-year contract from wireless providers in the U.S. and Europe.  For every 1 million unlocked iPhones, Apple loses $300 million to $400 million in future revenue and profit, and may also find it more difficult to sign deals with new carriers, Sacconaghi said.

“The prevalence of unlocked iPhones presents a significant strategic dilemma to Apple,” said Sacconaghi.  If Apple successfully cuts down on sales of unlocked iPhones, the company could miss its sales target of 10 million in 2008, he said.

AT&T, which is Apple’s exclusive wireless partner in the U.S., said last week that about 2 million iPhones had been activated.  If 315,000 iPhones were sold in Europe and 480,000 remain in store inventory, that leaves a “stunning” and “astounding” 1 million unaccounted for, Sacconaghi said.

And the above is the complete article from Metro New York.  Those unlocked phones some are sold here in the good ol’ US of A, but my guess it that most of them are sold overseas, mostly in Asia.  Since Apple still hasn’t set up any official partnerships with any wireless service providers in any countries in Asia, those unlocked phones are the only ones people can get.  Like in my previous entries, iPhone is already an hot item in China.  A friend of mine is even using an iPhone in China and according to her, the number of people who are using iPhone is not small.  The only obstacle they have to overcome are the updates issued from Apple.  However, that is only a delay for them to “update” since the hackers are working relentlessly to crack all the updates.
